Situated amidst the expansive and beautiful Gippsland countryside, Briagolong Kindergarten & Occasional Care Centre has been educating and caring for the children of Briagolong since 1988.

Our close relationships with community organisations such as the local primary school, health services, and Country Fire Authority allow us to provide a more holistic educational experience for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten-aged children. We also offer flexible Occasional Care services to accommodate busy families.

Children enrolling in our service in 2019 are eligible for the Victorian Government drought kindergarten fee subsidy.

Activities

Our excursions make children excited to learn about the world around them! We nurture an appreciation for nature and a sense of adventure by showing them the beauty of their environment, often in partnership with special guests from the community.

Children participate in activities such as:

  • Recycling of water and materials
  • Caring for worm farms and composting
  • Community excursions
  • Sustainability lessons run by Sale City Council
  • Play-based activities
  • Entertainment from special guests

Health and wellbeing

Children are encouraged to take responsibility for what they put into their bodies through activities that promote the importance of healthy eating and home-grown produce. Fun and practical education about food and safety gives your child the knowledge and desire to make healthy life choices.

At Briagolong:

  • We grow our own produce
  • We practise and emphasise food safety
  • We work sensitively with parents and families from a range of cultural backgrounds to ensure cultural foods meet food standard requirements
  • We offer progressive snack and lunchtime to empower children to ask for what they want and when
  • We educate children and their families about healthy eating and nutrition
  • Children participate in the Smiles4Miles & Sun Smart program, raising money for Children’s cancer alongside the local Lions Club.

Family and community

Briagolong encourages families to get involved in their child’s early learning experiences, inviting them to participate in cultural celebrations, health education, and committees that help us make your child’s education as fulfilling as possible. Frequent visits from local volunteers and organisations broaden their knowledge of the outside world and teach them the importance of community.

Families are invited to:

  • Celebrate significant cultural festivals and days together
  • Talk to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics
  • Volunteer their time to provide support and resources for our programs
  • Participate in our parent advisory committee.

We enjoy visits from:

  • Our local Country Fire Authority and Police
  • Local farmers
  • Sale Art Gallery
  • Declan the Music man
  • Library story-tellers
  • Living with Dogs
  • Lions Club
  • Black Snake Productions
  • Briagolong Primary and Kinder to build relationships that assist children with the transition

We love excursions to:

  • The local library for reading, music and movement, and empowering discovery.
  • Local museums
  • The Sale Art Gallery
  • Briagolong Primary School for physical education sessions
