With its expansive outdoor area featuring natural landscaping and vegetable gardens, Rupert Street Child Care & Kindergarten is an oasis of fun and laughter.

Caring for and educating children of our community since 1959, we are conveniently located in the inner-city suburb of Collingwood. Our multi-lingual educators are fluent in Thai, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, German, Spanish and Tagalog (Filipino).

We also participate in the Smiles 4 Miles program that encourages and promotes good oral health habits and healthy eating among children.

Health and wellbeing

Children learn how to take care of their bodies and minds at Rupert Street. We provide healthy and nourishing food to fuel growing bodies and emphasise the importance of healthy eating and nutrition. Our cook prepares culturally and dietary-appropriate food on site with locally grown ingredients - some from our own garden!

Family and community

It takes a village to raise a child so we encourage parents and carers to be active in their child’s learning by contributing to program development and events. We also engage the wider community in events that celebrate cultural diversity and connect with schools, libraries and museums to enrich your child’s development.

Parents and carers can get involved by:

● Talking to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics

● Volunteer their time to provide support and resources for our programs

● Assisting with fundraising

● Sharing resources from their homeland or recipes, food, etc.

● Attending social events

We also regularly engage with:

● Museums

● Wellbeing practitioners

● Farms or farmers

● Cohealth Collingwood, who provide support services such as Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, etc.

Languages

Where possible, we cater for our diverse community. Our educators speak a variety of languages including Vietnamese, Spanish, Thai, Mandarin, Hungarian, Italian and Hindi.

We can have all forms of communication translated for families who speak languages other than English.

Special services

Our educators are highly trained and experienced in working with children who live with a range of physical and intellectual disability or who have experienced challenges and trauma.
