Established in 1974, Stratford Kindergarten is located opposite Stratford Station. We offer 4 year old kindergarten, integrated with 3 year olds on alternate Fridays. Based on community needs, our families also have the option of a 5-hour kindergarten session.

Children enrolling in our service in 2019 are eligible for the Victorian Government drought kindergarten fee subsidy.

  • Recycling area encouraging sustainability and caring for the environment

  • Gross motor play equipment for activities such as climbing, skipping, throwing and catching
  • Chickens
  • Guinea pigs
  • Worm farm
  • Water tank

Activities

Caring for the natural environment and sustainability are a focus of our activities and approach, and we actively promote the importance of healthy lifestyles. At our kindergarten, we:

  • Encourage recycling
  • Recycle water
  • Promote sustainable living and encourage children to develop every day sustainable practises
  • Maintain a worm farm and encourage composting
  • Take excursions that encourage children to care for the environment around them

Health and wellbeing
  • We grow our own produce in our garden (e.g. herbs, vegetables, fruit)
  • We accommodate diverse dietary requirements
  • We practise and emphasise food safety
  • We work sensitively with parents and families from a range of cultural backgrounds to ensure cultural foods meet food standard requirements
  • We educate children and their families about healthy eating and nutrition

Family and community

Parents regularly participate in our kindergarten program:

  • We celebrate significant cultural festivals and days together
  • We invite them to talk to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics
  • They volunteer their time to provide support and resources for our programs
  • They assist with fundraising
  • We have a parent advisory committee. Positions are elected at the annual meeting of our kindergarten parents

People, groups or services within our community we engage with regularly include:

  • Stratford Primary School
  • Local library
  • Local service people (e.g. police, paramedic, nurse, fire and emergency services, etc.)
  • Indigenous community members or groups
  • Farms or farmers

We love to go on excursions to Stratford Primary School, our local supermarket, the Maffra gym, traffic school and local parks. We also love receiving visitors and special guests who both educate and entertain us on a variety of topics:

  • Music groups
  • Safe dog training
  • Indigenous visitors

We also participate in the Sun Safety program.

Special services

Our educators are equipped with the skills to provide safe and nurturing environments to all children. They are experienced in working with children who live with a range of physical and intellectual disability and children who have experienced challenges and trauma.

For interest in a kindergarten place for the remainder of 2019 and for 2020, please complete the Uniting registration form (https://earlylearning.vt.uniting.org/register/)

For a place in 2020, we send the letters of offer out to families in August including instructions for the next steps of enrolment and orientation dates.

For a place this year, we will be back in contact with you within a few days to discuss your care needs.
